Emma and Alex smile after getting engaged in a 1940's era Waco biplane flown by Mike Ratty of Carolina Barnstormers.

Alex:
I grew up in Missouri, but my family moved to Pueblo, Colorado when I was a teenager. I went to Colorado State University in Fort Collins and graduated an Electrical Engineer. I lived and worked in Fort Collins for a while before deciding to do a year of service with the Urban Servant Corps in Denver in 2003. I met Emma there, and after our adventure in South America, I followed her to Durham, NC, where we are now living.

Emma:
I grew up in various western NC towns (including Jefferson). My family spent weekends and vacations at "The Creek" (wedding location), where little sister Anna (almost a Senior at UNC now) and I spent lots of time running through the woods, playing in the creek, and sledding down the road. Mom Susan (who works in a law office) and Dad Thomas (United Methodist Minister) built the house. After graduating from UNC, I moved to Denver, CO, and met Alex while working for the Urban Servant Corps at the Women's Bean Project. After our South American adventures, I came back to Carolina and now work at the Wesley United Methodist Campus Ministry and Family Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Chatham County.
